Catalan Culture, Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2007, will also be present from 22 to 25 March at the Leipzig International Book Fair with a programme including readings, poetry and a Catalan party, amongst other activities.
The Leipzig Fair is the first of a number of major literary events in which Catalan culture will be taking throughout this year in Germany. The Institut Ramon Llull will be taking to Leipzig a programme spread over four days with events both on the Fair site and in the city.
On 22 March, the director of the Frankfurt Book Fair, Juergen Boos, and the director of the Institut Ramon Llull, Josep Bargalló, will give a press conference to reveal the overall scheme of Catalan participation at the Frankfurt Book Fair, the most important publishing event in the world, which this year is being held from 10 to 14 October.
Taking part in the programme of activities organised by the IRL in Leipzig will be authors such as Empar Moliner, Teresa Solana, Emili Rosales, Miquel de Palol, Baltasar Porcel, Eduard Márquez or Carles Batlle, German translations of whose works have recently appeared. In poetry, seven of the most firmly established contemporary poets will be there as well as representatives of the younger generation. To help explain Catalan literature, the programme of events will seek to place it in the context of figures who are internationally famous in other fields, such as Antoni Gaudí and Salvador Dalí.
