The Web site for Frankfurt 2007 is being built in such a way as to facilitate universal accessibility.
The Institut Ramon Llull is working to make the site comply with World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) recommendations to eliminate the barriers that impede the right of all users to access information and communication.
Please don’t hesitate to send us your suggestions and comments to help us improve the site.
Use of (X)HTML code, which makes it possible to create standard documents with a clean structure.
Positioning of content using cascading style-sheets and not tables. Screen readers for users with impaired eye-sight and the blind will read the document in a logical way.
The use of scripts is limited and noscript alternatives are available in cases where this is essential in order to navigate the site. The use of Javascript (roll-down menus, pop-ups, etc.) is a possibility, not a necessity. An alternative is always offered to users who have Javascript deactivated or old versions without DOM support.
Increase in the size of the text. In order to facilitate reading, the website allows for changing the size of the text. You need only go to the “View” option of the Explorer browser, choose “Text Size ” and choose the size desired, or move the mouse while pressing the “control” button. Other browsers (Netscape, Mozilla, or Opera) have similar options for increasing the size of the text. The selection of a size of text will be maintained for the rest of the pages that you visit, and can be changed whenever you like.
Links with submenu. In this way subsections can be seen, making it easier for the user to access the desired information directly.
Drop-down menus have been avoided to facilitate browsing.
In order to facilitate use, contents have been designed in such a way that few links are clicked on to reach information. Usually, the pages of deeper levels can be reached in three clicks.
Direct access to the main browsing options at all times: main menu and side menus.
Direct access to the main map using the logo and the START label.
Direct access to the web site map.
Direct access to the search engine.
The presentation of the information on each page has a similar structure throughout the web site, in order to facilitate the assimilation of the different browsing and content options.
The images are described with an alternative text.
The use of the applications Flash has been limited.
Flashing effects have been avoided.
The links are joined, in general, to a text and not to graphic elements or, in some cases, to both a text and graphic element.
The order for browsing links has been programmed to be easy to use with the tab.
The links are supposed to change colour when the cursor passes over them.
The browsers recommended are Internet Explorer 5.x, Netscape 7.x, and Opera 7.x. Nonetheless, other, older browsers also work, with small graphics flaws.
