Frankfurt, October 13th - With a speech the Catalan author Baltasar Porcel will close the Guest of Honour presentation of the Catalan Culture at the book fair 2007 in Frankfurt on Sunday. Within the handover ceremony of the GastRolle on 3.30 pm. at the Auditorium in the Forum of the fair he speaks about the role of the literature as a bridge between cultures and countries.
As the last event of the Guest of Honour presentation of the Catalan Culture the several times decorated novelist Baltasar Porcel and the Turkish author Elif Shafak come together. They will read out of their books and will talk about the effect of the literature as a connecting element between people and different cultures. Especially in times of the globalization this connection is an important challenge, Porcel points out. "Yes, we live in a world of globalization. But it should be a version of the Mediterranean on a global scale, a brotherhood or combination of brotherhoods."
The aim of all acting should be to protect the freedom and the thoughts of the people. Something the Guest of Honour presentation of the Catalan Culture wanted to aid. "What do all peoples and individuals on this planet want? They want political democracy, a welfare state, the firm enthronement of the human rights they are due, and to be free as much as they can be. That is the most important point for a great universal Mediterranean future."
