(EFE).- Today, in a meeting at the Leipzig Book Fair, the Institut Ramon Llull (IRL) formally invited the Nobel prize-winner for literature Günter Grass to participate in the events being organised to mark the invitation of Catalan culture as Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
The meeting between Günter Grass, the head of Humanities and Science at the IRL, Carles Torner, and the head of Communication, Antoni Batista, took place today at 3.30 p.m. at the Leipzig Book Fair.
According to the IRL representatives, Günter Grass expressed an interest in participating in some way during one of the events that Catalan culture is organising for the Frankfurt Book Fair, at which it will be the guest of honour, although it was not possible for him to confirm a date for his participation as he has been invited to numerous events to celebrate his 80th birthday.
Yesterday in Leipzig the director of the IRL Josep Bargalló, who returned to Barcelona today, said that Günter Grass' agent had confirmed that an exhibition of drawings by Grass would be organised and held at the Litteraturhause in Frankfurt.
Bargalló went on to say that almost fifty of Günter Grass' drawings depicting the landscapes of Catalonia, especially those of the Empordà, would be exhibited.
During the impromptu meeting with Grass, Carles Torner suggested to him the possibility of participating in one of the debates that will be held between Catalan writers and others working in a number of different languages, or perhaps at the presentation of his own exhibition.
Torner invited Günter Grass to incorporate or integrate his recent paper, "How to be a writer in a world without peace" into one of these debates.
