Catedràtic d’Estètica a l’Escola d’Arquitectura de Barcelona, Santayana Fellow de la Universitat d’Harvard, membre fundador del Nova York Institute for Humanities i president de l’Institut d’Humanitats de Barcelona. De l’experiència de parlamentari de les Corts Espanyoles i del Parlament europeu (1985-1994) en resultà El cortesà i el seu fantasma (Destino 1993), Premi Josep Pla. Autor prolífic, ha publicat textos diversos, de l’assaig fins l’aforisme, que evidencien la seva disconformitat amb la tradició filosòfica ortodoxa. La seva activitat intel·lectual va aconseguir notorietat amb El arte ensimismado (Ariel, 1963) i Teoria de la sensibilitat (Edicions 62, 1969). Entre els seus darrers llibres destaquen Catalunya: de la identitat a la independència (Empúries, 1999) i Dios entre otros inconvenientes (Anagrama, 2001). És Premi Lletra d’Or 1968, Premi Anagrama i Creu de Sant Jordi 1999.

Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Ästhetik an der Architektur-Hochschule Barcelona, Santayana Fellow der Harvard Universität, Gründungsmitglied des New York Institute for Humanities und Präsident des Instituts für Geisteswissenschaften Barcelona. Seine Erfahrung im spanischen Parlament und im Europa-Parlament (1985-1994) verarbeitete er in Der Höfling und sein Gespenst (Destino 1993), ein Buch, das ihm den Josep-Pla-Preis einbrachte. Als fruchtbarer Autor hat er unterschiedlichste Werke hervorgebracht, von Sachtexten bis zu Aphorismen-Sammlungen, was seine Uneinigkeit mit der orthodoxen Philosophie unterstreicht. Seine intellektuelle Tätigkeit fand mit der Veröffentlichung von Die selbstverliebte Kunst (Ariel, 1963) und Sensibilitätstheorie (Edicions 62, 1969) Anerkennung. Unter seinen jüngeren Büchern sind folgende hervorzuheben: Katalonien: Von der Identität zur Unabhängigkeit (Empúries, 1999) und Götter und andere Unannehmlichkeiten (Anagrama, 2001). Er erhielt mehrere Auszeichnungen, u.a. des Lletra d’Or 1968, den Anagrama-Preis und das Sant-Jordi-Kreuz von 1999.

Xavier Rubert de Ventós is Professor of Aesthetics at the School of Arquitecture in Barcelona, Santayana Fellow of Harvard University, founding member of the New York Institute for Humanities and president of the Humanities Institut of Barcelona. From his experience within the Spanish Parliament and of the Euopean Parliament (1985-1994) came The Courtier and His Ghost (Destino, 1993), winner of the Josep Pla Prize. A prolific author, he has published various texts, from the essay to the aphorism, which made evident his nonconformity with the orthodox poetic tradition. His intellectual activity gained him notoriety with Art Lost in Thought (Ariel, 1963) and Theory of Sensitivity (Edicions 62, 1969). Among his latest books are Catalunya: from Identity to Independence (Empúries, 1999) and God Among Other Inconveniences (Anagrama, 2001). He was awarded the Lletra d’Or Prize 1968, the Anagrama Prize and received the Creu de Sant Jordi in 1999.
