Poeta i narrador. Editor i impulsor d’activitats culturals com “L’Any del Tirant”. L’any 1979 va guanyar el Premi Carles Riba de poesia amb El somriure de l’herba, i l’any 1991 recopilava la poesia a Dictats d’amors (poesia 1971-1991) (Edicions 62). Més endavant publica El jardí llunyà (Edicions 62, 2000) o Cants i encants (Ensiola, 2004). La seva primera novel·la és Rondalla del retorn (1977), gènere que canviarà poc després per la “narrativa del jo”. Els seus llibres, entre intimistes i memorialistes, expliquen sovint viatges: El cingle verd (1982), Ací s’acaba tot (1993), fruit d’un any d’hospitalització, Seduccions de Marràqueix (1996), Premi Sant Joan, o A Jerusalem (2005), tots a Edicions 62. El seu darrer llibre, Puta postguerra (2007), és la continuació d’El temps feliç, unes memòries publicades el 2001, també editades a Edicions 62.

Verleger und Initiator verschiedener kultureller Aktivitäten wie des “Tirant-Jahres”. 1979 gewann er den Carles-Riba-Preis für Poesie mit Das Lächeln des Grases, 1991 fasste er seine Gedichte in dem Band Liebes-Diktate Poesie 1971-1991 (Edicions 62) zusammen. Später erschien Weit entfernter Garten (Edicions 62, 2000) und Lieder voll Zauber (Ensiola, 2004). Sein erster Roman war dann Rondell der Wiederkehr (1977), Genre, das er kurze Zeit später zugunsten von “Ich-Erzählungen” aufgab. Er baut seine Bücher, mal intim, mal denkmalhaft auf, oftmals erzählen sie Reisen: Der grüne Felsen (1982), So findet alles ein Ende (1993), das während einem einjährigen Krankenhausaufenthalt entstand, Verführung in Marrakech (1996), Sant-Joan-Preis, oder In Jerusalem (2005), alle erschienen bei Edicions 62. Bei seinem jüngsten Buch, Verfluchte Nachkriegszeit (2007), handelt es sich um die Fortsetzung von Eine glückliche Zeit, seine 2001 veröffentlichten Memoiren, ebenfalls bei Edicions 62.

Poet and fiction writer. Josep Piera is a publisher and sponsor of cultural activities such as “The Year of Tirant”. In 1979 he won the Carles Riba Prize for poetry with The Laugh of the Grass, and in 1991 he recollected his poetry in Dictation of Loves (poetry 1971-1991) (Edicions 62). Later he would publish The Distant Garden (Edicions 62, 2000) and Songs and Enchantments (Ensiola, 2004). His first novel was Tale of the Return (1977), but he would exchange this genre for “Narrative of I”. His books, somewhere between intimate and remembrance, often explain voyages: The Green Cliff (1982), Here Everything Ends (1993), fruit of a year of hospitalization, Seductions of Morroco (1996), winner of the Sant Joan Prize, and In Jerusalem (2005), all with Edicions 62. His latest book, Damn Postwar (2007) is the continuation of Happy Times, some of his memoirs published in 2001, also by Edicions 62.
