Escriptor, antropòleg, sociòleg i professor universitari. Doctor en Filosofia i Lletres per la Universitat de València. Com a assagista destaquen els treballs que es basen en la situació de la llengua i el poble valencià: Crítica de la nació pura (3i4, 1985), premis Joan Fuster i Crítica Serra d’Or, o Sobre la nació dels valencians (3i4, 1997). També té una síntesi històrica sobre Els Borja: família i mite (2000). La seva obra narrativa comença el 1974 amb El bou de foc, El desig dels dies (1981) i el recull de contes Els cucs de seda (1975). Tots tres títols plens de realisme, amb una clara voluntat de recuperar la memòria i un cert component autobiogràfic. Anys més tard, apareix la primera part d’una triologia Els treballs perduts (3i4, 1989), continuada amb Purgatori (Proa, 2002), Premi Sant Jordi i encara incompleta, però que se la considera el nucli més important i significatiu de la seva obra narrativa. Entremig publica Borja Papa (3i4, 1996), que va rebre els premis Joan Crexells i el Nacional de la Crítica, i alguna biografia com Sant Vicent Ferrer: vida i llegenda d’un predicador (Bromera, 2002). Com a traductor, destaquen la versió editada i anotada de la Divina Comèdia (Proa, 2001) de Dante i la dels Evangelis (Proa, 2004).

Unter seinen Essays sind die Arbeiten hervorzuheben, die sich mit der Sprachsituation und der Bevölkerung Valencias beschäftigen, wie Kritik der reinen Nation (3i4, 1985), ausgezeichnet mit den Preisen Joan Fuster und Crítica Serra d’Or, oder Über die Nation der Valencianer (3i4, 1997). Auch hat er eine historische Abhandlung zum Thema Die Borgias: Familie und Mythos (2000) geschrieben. Sein Prosawerk begann er 1974 mit Der Feuerstier, Das Verlangen der Tage (1981) und dem Erzählband Die Seidenraupen (1975). Alle drei Werke sind von Realismus geprägt, dem klaren Wunsch Erinnerungen aufzuarbeiten und auch von gewissen autobiografischen Komponenten. Einige Jahre später erschien der erste Teil einer Trilogie mit Verlorene Arbeiten (3i4, 1989), gefolgt von Fegefeuer (Proa, 2002), ausgezeichnet mit dem Sant-Jordi-Preis. Obwohl noch unvollendet, wird die Trilogie als das Kernstück und der bedeutendste Teil seines literarischen Werkes angesehen. Zwischenzeitlich veröffentlichte er Der Papst Borgia (3i4, 1996), der ihm den Joan-Crexells-Preis und den Nationalen Kritikerpreis einbrachte, sowie einige Biografien wie zum Beispiel Sankt Vicent Ferrer: Leben und Legende eines Predigers (Bromera, 2002). Unter seinen Arbeiten als Übersetzer sind die kommentierte Ausgabe von Dantes Göttlicher Komödie (Proa, 2001) oder die Übersetzung der Evangelien (Proa, 2004) hervorzuheben.

Writer, anthropologist, sociologist and university professor. Joan Francesc Mira has a doctorate in Philosophy and Letters from the University of Valencia. As an essayist his work stands out for its foundation in the language and lands of Valencia: Critique of a Pure Nation (3i4, 1985), winner of the Joan Fuster Prize and the Crítica Serra d’Or Prize, and On the Valencians’ Nation (3i4, 1997). He has also written an historical summary, The Borjas: Family and Myth (2000). His narrative work began in 1974 with The Ox of Fire, The Desire of The Days (1981) and the collection of short stories The Silkworms (1975): all three charged with realism, a clear desire to recuperate the memory, and a certain autobiographical component. Years later, The Lost Works appeared. It is the first part of an as of yet uncompleted trilogy that has been continued with Purgatory (Proa, 2002), winner of the Sant Jordi Prize. Despite being a work-in-progress this trilogy is considered the most important nucleus of his narrative work. Meanwhile he has published Pope Borja (3i4, 1996), which received the Joan Crexells Prize and the the National Prize for the Critics, as well as the biography Sant Vicent Ferrer: The Life and Legend of a Preacher (Bromera, 2002). As a translator he is noted for his edited version of Dante’s Divine Comedy (Proa 2001) and of the Gospels (Proa, 2004).
