Escriptor i poeta, és llicenciat en Biologia i en Ciències de la Informació. Director del Festival de Poesia de la Mediterrània i col·laborador en diversos mitjans de comunicació, s’ha distingit com a veu crítica dins i fora de la ficció amb un llenguatge poètic exuberant i una crítica ferotge i àcida. La seva primera novel·la, L’adolescent de sal (Edicions 62, 1975), és un text singular i innovador, i la segueixen Excelsior o el temps escrit (Empúries, 1995) i Vertígens (Edicions 62, 1999). Escriu i publica poesia i manté el blog Plagueta de bord. Ha rebut diversos premis com el Ciutat de Barcelona, o el Ciutat de Palma Llorenç Villalonga (1998). Ha col·laborat en el guió d’El mar d’A. Villaronga (2000). En narrativa breu destaquen Doi (1990) i T’estim a tu (Empúries, 2001) o, més recentment, Els detalls del món (Empúries, 2005), que ha obtingut el Premi Nacional de Literatura 2006.

Er hat sich einen Ruf als gnadenloser, bissiger Kritiker literarischer und außerliterarischer Sachverhalte und sprachgewaltiger Wortkünstler erworben. Mit seinem ersten Roman, Der Junge aus Salz (Edicions 62, 1975), schuf er einen einzigartigen und innovativen Text, ihm folgten Excelsior oder die geschriebene Zeit (Empúries, 1995) und Schwindelgefühl (Edicions 62, 1999). Er schreibt und veröffentlicht Poesie und ist verantwortlich für den Blog Bordbuch. Neben mehreren anderen Preisen erhielt er den Preis der Stadt Barcelona und den Llorenç-Villalonga-Preis der Stadt Palma 1998. Auch wirkte er am Drehbuch von A. Villarongas Das Meer (2000) mit. An Erzählungen sind hervorzuheben Doi (1990) und Ich liebe dich (Empúries, 2001) sowie das kürzlich erschienene Die Einzelheiten der Welt (Empúries, 2005), ausgezeichnet mit dem Nationalen Kulturpreis für Literatur (2006).

Writer and poet. Biel Mesquida has a degree in Biology and Informational Sciences. He is the Director of the Mediterranean Poetry Festival and a contributor to various media outlets. He has distinguished himself as a critical voice within and outside of the realm of fiction with an exuberant poetic language and a ferocious and caustic criticism. His first novel, Adolescent of Salt (Edicions 62, 1975) is a singular and innovative text that was followed by Elcelsior or Written Time (Empúries, 1995) and Vertigo (Edicions 62, 1999). He writes and publishes poetry and maintains the blog Plagueta de bord. He has received numerous prizes such as the Cuitat de Barcelona and the Ciutat de Palma Llorenç Villalonga (1998). He has collaborated on the screenplay for A. Villaronga’s The Sea (2000). His short stories included Doi (1990), I Love You (Empúries, 2001) and most recently, The Details of the World (Empúries, 2005), which won the National Prize for Literature 2006.
